Website Disk Space, Traffic, and Bandwidth
DISK SPACE refers to the total file size of the elements of your website. The individual pages of a well optimized website should be no larger than 50K (which takes about 30 seconds to download on a standard "56K" modem,) so a 100 page site may only use 5,000K or about 5 MB. Files like high-resolution images, mp3 files, and streaming audio/video can be very large: a 3 minute mp3 can be 15MB.

If you have a VERY popular web site, BANDWIDTH is the major expense. Bandwidth relates to the volume of traffic you get on your web site. It is measured by bytes uploaded to or downloaded from your server (and includes email traffic.)

For instance if your home page with 4 navigation buttons and 1 photo uses 20kb total of disk space for the files, it will require 20k of bandwidth for a web visitor to view that page. The more graphic intensive your pages are, the more bandwidth will be used.

The average website uses far, far less than 1 gig of bandwidth per month. Approximating, 1 gig is equivalent to about 50,000 page views of a 20K webpage (or 10,000 visitors, each cruising 5 pages of your website.) Our Hosting Plans start with 2 GIG of traffic included!!!
